Free Downloads Instructions

Before You Begin:

First, a word of warning: software you download from the Web can contain viruses, spyware, or other kinds of malware. If you don't already have it, be sure to download and install anti-virus software before you do anything else.

  1. Create your "Downloads" Directory. It helps to have a single place to store all of the files you download from the Web. If you don't already have a "Downloads" directory, create one.
  2. Download the file. To download software from Free Downloads section, just click the link that says, "Get it", and you will be taken to the page of the publisher that will allow you to download a verstion best suited for you operating environment. If it is a web application or ASP, then you'll be taken to the page closest to the application.
  3. Decompress it (if applicable). With your favorite file compression program, decompress it so that you can install it. Be sure to note the folder to which it got decompressed.
  4. Install. For Windows, if the file you've downloaded has the extension EXE, it's likely a self-extracting file that will install the software when you double click it. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the program. For most Mac OS X applications by dragging them into almost any folder on the hard drive. We recommend installing all software in the Applications folder. Check the software site for detailed installation instructions.
